About the Primary Care Contracting area of the NatPaCT website
The new GMS contract and PMS are designed to benefit GPs, other primary care professionals, the NHS and most importantly, patients. They aim to reward practices offering higher quality care, improve GPs' working lives and ensure patients benefit from a wider range of improved services within the community.
The new GMS contract is due to be implemented in all GMS practices from April 2004. The Department of Health is producing detailed guidance on GMS and aspects of the new PMS to support their introduction.
In the meantime, this prospectus of support outlines the practical help available to support practices, PCTs and SHAs implementing the contract. It has been developed with input from PCT Chief Executives, SHAs, PEC Chairs, GPs and nurses and draws on tools developed by the NHS Modernisation Agency (MA), the National Primary Care Development Team (NPDT) and the Department of Health (DH).
